H.P. Zinker

HP Zinker - Hovering, 1991 Pots and pans played with wooden spoons in the kitchen of my very patient and understanding mother was the start of my career. School orchestras, big band, marching band, and of course a garage band playing cover versions with friends in local pubs followed. Tiring quickly of what the local scene had to offer in Buffalo, studies in jazz ensued and a move to NYC followed. Recording sessions and one nighter's in New York led to the meeting of HP Zinker in the winter of 1990 and the band achieved cult status through diligent touring and recording of it's unique uncompromising sound. Six full length lp's, non-stop touring of the US and Europe, acting in and creating the music for a "B" horror film, etc. found me and the band members wanting to pursue other ventures and in the Autumn of '96 we called it a day.

THE WAZ as composer

David was born and raised in Buffalo and reared in New York City. His past musical accomplishments include having played with the group H.P. Zinker - a progressive rock Trio that released 7 CD's in its 5-year stint together. He has recorded for Matador Records (NYC), Fire Records (UK), Thrill Jockey (Chicago), and Energy Records (NYC). He has lived in London, Los Angeles, New York City, and most recently in Vienna, Austria where he taught music, worked as a studio musician, and toured continental Europe. In 1998 he formed The Waz and started Waz Records in B-Lo New York. As an alternative to plastic jewel cases David, with assistance from Sean Roughley (The Armour Box Co.), developed a unique package design to release The Waz's CD's.

David celebrates life through music with "the best band mates you could imagine having together in one group! " He also enjoys traveling, working in the garden, good literature, foreign films, shooting pool and a competitive game of table tennis.

His musical influences as of recent include MMW, DJ Shadow, Krueder and Dorfmeister, DJ Logic, Beastie Boys, Fat Boy Slim, and Liquid Soul. Include to the aforementioned list any post bop era stuff with the emphasis on groove and cool, and throw in some classic rock and classical for good measure.

David endorses Paiste Cymbals, DW Drums, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and AKG Microphones and would like to wish you well and thank you for supporting The Waz.
